No offense intended, but one can not be “half Jewish.” One’s mother must be Jewish in order to be considered truly Jewish. If he is Jewish by religious practice (conversion) then one would say, “He practices Judaism.” I hope this makes sense.
The term "half-Jewish" which means one parent is Jewish but not the other, may be technically incorrect. Since we don't know whether or not John "practices Judaism" we can only tell what we know.
